Notes about the terminology
- Color:
- There is up to 3 colors can be stored in the database for
each flower. The colors are ordered by the relative amount found
in individual flowers.
- Flower Shape:

- Simple
- Simple flowers are radially symmetric or almost symmetric.
They may have any number of petals or sepals.
- Composite
- Composite flowers are found in the Aster/Sunflower family and
are made up of two types of flowers. Ray flowers have
all the petals fused into on long petal. An example of a ray
is the petals on a daisy. Disk flowers have the petals
fused into a tiny tube. Disk flowers form the center of Sunflowers.
- Irregular
- Irregular flowers may a mirror plane but tend to have lobes of
different length. Irregular flowers also include Irises and Pea
flowers.
- Flower Size:

The size of the individual flowers.
- Cluster Shape:

- Single
- The flowers are individual or possibly a few together.
- Round
- A round or irregular flat grouping of flowers including
umbels.
- Elongated
- A long spike of spear of flowers. They may be opposite,
alternate, or spiraled along the stem.
- Globular
- A ball shaped cluster of flowers.

The diameter or length of the cluster.
- Leaf Size:

The length of the leaves.

- Lanceolate
- A long narrow leaf with the broadest part closer to the base
than the tip.
- Ovate
- A rounded or oval shaped leaf that may be pointed at the tip.
- Triangular
- Has a broad base and pointy tip.
- Lobed
- Lobes are usually symmetric about the central vein.
- Divided
- Leaf is divided into several smaller leaves. The leaflets
may be connected at the base or seperated on the stem slightly.
- Grass-like
- Long slender leaves usually growing from bulb or root directly.

- The edges are smooth and regular
- Wavy
- The edges have a ripples appearance
- Toothed
- The edges have either rounded teeth or point teeth.

- There are two leaves together on opposite sides of the stem
- Alternate
- The leaves alternate from one side of the stem to the other.
- Spiral
- The leaves spiral around the stem.
- Basal Rosette
- The leaves form a rosette around the base of the plant.
- Whorled
- A group of leaves spread out from stem at intervals.

- All the leaves come directly from the bulb or root, not
from the stem.

- A woody plant or bush.
