5 petaled irregular flower. 1 large broad upper banner petal, 2 similarly shaped wing petals, and 2 joined lower keel petals forming a canoe shape. Flower unique to this family.
Fruit:
Pods with seeds lined along inside.
Leaves:
Pinnately or palmately divided. Sometimes appears simple when leaflets lost in evolution.
Plant:
Vines, herbs, shrubs and trees. Flowers often in globular or elongated clusters.
